The Hottest 100 Of All Time

Aussie radio station Triple j is celebrating 20 years of its annual Hottest 100 poll with a vote for The Hottest 100 Of All Time.

The triple j Hottest 100 started out in 1989 as a vote for the ‘hottest’ song of all time. In that year the top ten looked like this:

1. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
2. Hunters & Collectors - Throw Your Arms Around Me
3. The The - Uncertain Smile
4. The Jam - That's Entertainment
5. New Order - Blue Monday
6. Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
7. The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?
8. Hunters & Collectors - Talking To A Stranger
9. The Sugarcubes - Birthday
10. The Cure - A Forest

The last triple j Hottest 100 of All Time was run in 1998. Gone was much of the 80s post punk and indie pop, replaced with grunge and 90s rock:

1. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
2. Hunters & Collectors - Throw Your Arms Around Me
3. Pearl Jam - Alive
4. Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye
5. Radiohead - Creep
6. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
7. Metallica - One
8. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
9. Metallica - Enter Sandman
10. Pearl Jam - Black
