Distribution of artists in the Bawley 100

After 10 years and 1000 songs, 485 artists have appeared in the Bawley 100.

The Privileged Few

It appears that not every artist is equal. The top 20 Artists (4%) have contributed 191 (19.1%) songs.

Who are the privileged few?

The Long Tail

Along with a privileged few the Bawley 100 history reveals a large class of disadvantage. 288 (59.3%) artists have had just one entry.

As we said in the 2011 countdown. We are the  99% 59.3%.

The Bawley 100 - New Years Eve 2016/2017

Bawléymon Go listeners claim they have been moved on by police and threatened with fines, after a large crowd flocked to an otherwise quiet South Coast beach. Racecourse Beach at Bawley Point has attracted listeners in great numbers, with three Bawléystops intersecting at the location.

Areas with a concentration of Bawléystops - the game's landmark-based locations that provide songs and hipster points - are favoured by players looking to pad out their end of year lists.

But residents and campers at the quiet beach are fighting back, with one telling us that there was "complete chaos" and "massive levels of noise" climaxing at midnight on December 31st.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "I think one of them was listening to Muscles. Muscles! Do they have no respect.

"This beach is supposed to be for the kids, families. Yesterday people were knocking down sand castles, dancing and listening to music, if you can even call it music."

There were also reports of residents waterbombing Bawléymon Go players.

Bawléymon fans have taken to Facebook and Reddit to organise and advise other players, with groups and subreddits dedicated to finding the best locations to catch songs for their end of year list.

It is also possible for a listener to add a lure module known as a "New Radiohead Single" to a Bawléystop, which attracts hype to the area, benefiting all other listeners nearby.

One of Racecourse Beach's new-found guests had bought a new pair of thongs to brave the hot sand - just so he could play Bawléymon Go for longer.

"We didn't know [the list] would be this big," he said. "This beach is the best place to find Bawléymon. "It's all over Facebook - the groups, the pages."

Bawléymon Go has seen a massive uptake since being released on New Years Eve, already overtaking Chill FM in daily active listeners.

The South Coast's chief bikini inspector and deputy mayor Mr Healthy Tan told the Herald that the council had rostered extra rangers, undertaken extra waste collection and is issuing free ear plugs to deal with the influx of players at Bawley Point.

"Bawléymon Go provides a wonderful opportunity for people to enjoy the sounds and sand of this beach in a fun, interactive way but we ask people to do this in a safe, considerate manner," he said.

"Our first concern is for people's safety, staying alert to their local surroundings: look where they are dancing, check for sharp shells before crossing the sand and don't swim after eating.

"When playing Bawléymon Go, we ask that people do this with consideration to where they are."

"Gotta catch em all."

The Bawley 100 - New Years Eve 2015/2016

Happily ensconced in the obscure, with a barely active music blog and a taste for the alternative, the Bawley crew's past suddenly caught up with them.

In 2015 they were sentenced to spend a year in a minimum-security prison, punished for their 10 year old association with a known pan pipe player. Forced to trade headphones for handcuffs, soundcloud for shared showers, and band t-shirts for boiler-suits.
