I Want Your Discipline

This week Nine Inch Nails released another new track to the internet this time it is a proper radio single with lyrics and every thing. Download for free at discipline.nin.com

Hidden in the mp3 tags is a note to check nin.com on May 5th, suspect it will be the announcement of more tour dates but as Trent Reznor is running a what ever you can do I can do better campaign against radiohead fingers crossed for a thumbs_down style webcast. The multi-tracks for discipline are also available for free from remix.nin.com no doubt one of the bawley team will have a crack at remixing the track soon.

The track it self is a drum driven dance (almost disco) track, sure to fill the dance floors of alternative clubs everywhere.

But the best thing about this new single has got to be the attached video. Is it real or is it the work of a creative fan, either way it is pretty funny. Click to see for yourself. Be sure to watch through to the 2.50 mark when things get sexy, before being shut down by the bureau.

Mix-tape Musings

Following on from Hummer's blog entry on mix-tape's in March, it recently struck me just how many I make. Now I've made more than a few mix-tapes, mostly for boys as an instrument of love (look at my clever eclectic music taste, I'm so indie, etc) as well as for friends in an endless endeavour to tune their ears in and share my favourite songs. I've also been on the receiving end of plenty too, they have delighted me, made me cry, won me over, got me through hard times. But my latest offering, a divorce mix-tape. Yeah not so common right? 

It made me realise how much music is a part of life and how particular songs travel with me. So the opening track to this 'divorce tape' was my favourite Stars song Your Ex-Lover Is Dead, how apt you say. Other songs that made the cut include Angus & Julia Stone's Wasted (no surprise there) and the probably unnecessary bad-taste inclusion, No One's Gonna Love You from Band of Horses (she'll get the irony I'm sure..)

Now this friend probably hasn't received said mix-tape yet (and has never read this blog either) so no feedback as yet to the success of my newest venture in the mix-tape tradition. I'll keep you posted.

Why I hate Lollapalooza...

Why, oh why is Splendour in the Grass again scheduled for the same weekend as Chicago's Lollapalooza? It takes the eye just a second to see why bawley might feel this way. Headlining the enormous US festival is Radiohead. Yeah, not happy. Looks like we'll be waiting even longer for Thom and co. to make it down under again. The Splendour line-up whilst reasonably grand comes a poor second to the Chicago 3 day festival. I mean why would you get on a plane and fly 24 hours when you can just go to Chicago and lose your luggage? 

This bawley girl is disappointed indeed.

Bawley Supports Record Store Day 2008

This Girl's in Love. . . Part II

Today saw the release of the much anticipated second album from Sydney based indie dance duo the Presets. Here at Bawley, we have been hanging out to get our hot little hands on a copy of Apocalypso and thankfully our local record store was selling them early. It's no secret that many the night has been danced away to the euphoric sounds of the dance darlings at our local indie bar and this album doesn't disappoint, consistently providing the essential elements of a great dance track.

After listening to the album three times in the last 15 hours, stand out tracks so far include opening track Kicking and Screaming, Talk Like That, the beautiful If I know You reminiscent of Girl and the Sea, and of course let's not forget the already Bawley hyped My People and This Boy's in Love.

Apocalypso shows our favourite Sydney dance duo haven't strayed far from their roots with this one, still however managing to provide something new with an album that has so much depth, excitement and energy. For me, a lover of music with lyrics* the first half of the album is perfect with great lyrics that come from the heart or make you want to dance. Or both.

With a heavy overseas touring schedule coming up, Australia won't be seeing much of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes over the next year - so catch them when you can. This Bawley girl is still in love, and getting herself to Sydney for their June show.
