Wee are the world. Wee are the people.

Last month, at a Metallica concert in Boston, off-duty police officer Joseph Houston allegedly urinated into a nearby seat and on to a fan. Houston was ejected from the concert and now faces a disciplinary hearing.

Steven Wells asks When did rock music become so prissy that taking a leak in your concert seat – a seat that you've paid for – is such a terrible no-no?

Let's declare March 2009 Rock Urine Freedom Month

From Jetstream to Airstream

Last Friday we bought you news of the new Doves download, Jetstream. If, for this Friday, you were, for some reason, looking for another free MP3 download with the word ‘stream’ in its title from a Northern English indie band, well, you’re in luck.

Go carefully to www.gomeztheband.com to download ‘Airstream Driver’, the first taste of the band's 6th album, ‘A New Tide’. I really like it. Lots of bass. And cowbell.

The album’s out March 28 in Australia, two days later in the UK, and the day after that in the US.

Bawley 100 - 2008 Mega Mix

In 2008 mash up master Girl Talk fed the animals with his album Feed The Animals. Now it is our turn...

The Bawley 100 - 2008 Mega Mix is a (very) amateur effort containing a number of highlights draw from the 2008 Bawley 100. The Megamix can be downloaded from here.

The first downloader to correctly post the Artist and Track name of each song used in the Mega mix will win a special prize.

Here is a Tip: There are clues in the cover art. (Included with the mp3 in the zip file - get it here)

Here come the Doves

It’s always good news when Doves come back. The band has just announced their fourth album, ‘Kingdom Of Rust’, which is due out 6th April.

New track ‘Jetstream’ – available for free download from doves.net – sees Doves ‘going electronic’, as bands very often do when they hit their ‘mid-career crisis’. As comeback singles go, it’s no ‘There Goes The Fear’ or ‘Black and White Town’ but represents an interesting New Order-esque new direction.

Let’s see if they can do what fellow Mancuians Elbow did last last year and break through to a wider audience with their fourth record.

Coming soon: A reason to buy the NME

Not many details yet, but it seems the NME are putting together (another) Cure tribute CD, which will be mounted on the cover of the magazine, presumably around the time that the band collect their Godlike Genius award and play their Big Gig in The O2.

So far, British Sea Power have announced (via their mailing list) that they have recorded a version of 'A Forest' and Eddie Argos has revealed on his blog that Art Brut have recorded 'Catch'.

More news as and when we have it.

(Doing the Sums 2008) Are You Joe Average?

Following on from yesterdays post Triple J Hottest 100: The Results are In.

Here is a test to see just how average you are:

1. Write out a list of the songs you voted for in the triplej Hottest 100.
2. Write down the position each of these came in the triplej Hottest 100
3. If a song did not make the list put down 101.
4. Add up the scores, and divide by the number of songs you voted for.
5. Post your results as a comment to this blog entry.

Here is how to interpret your score (thanks fandango)
1-13: Either you are the lovechild of Bernard Fanning and Rikki Lee Coulter or you are actually in The Kings of Leon.

14-27: Betcha listen to 104.7 when no-one's around.

28-40: Very vanilla

41-52: "Middle of the Hill" is your signature song in more ways than one.

53-65: Pretty pedestrian, but you probably have one weirdo friend who is rubbing off on you more than you realise.

66-77: Kinda quirky in a cute way.

78-89: Kinda quirky in a "slowly back away..." way.

90-100: You're a f***ing freak, man

101: Did you vote for songs, or flavours of ice cream????
Bawley scored:
Bloc Party - One Month Off - 101
Hot Chip - One Pure Thought – 101
British Sea Power - Waving Flags - 101
Sparkadia Jealousy - 79
Ladyhawke - Paris Is Burning - 26
Band Of Horses - No One's Gonna Love You - 72
TV On The Radio - Golden Age - 101
Elbow - One Day Like This - 101
The Presets - This Boy's In Love - 8
MGMT - Time To Pretend - 18
70.8 - Kinda quirky in a cute way.

So just 30 of Bawley's 100 made the list (plus 2 from 2007), and only one of Bawley's 10 made the Hottest 100 top 10. Perhaps unsurprisingly, 3 acts - Kings Of Leon, MGMT and The Presets - dominated the higher reaches of the charts, each occupying two spots in the top 10.

But no Lambchop? No British Sea Power? No Elbow? No The Cure? No Nine Inch Nails? No Crystal Castles? No Deerhunter? No Bloc Party? Not even any TV On The Radio????? What's wrong with these people????

Ah well. Join us soon for a game of 'how mainstream are you?'
